Jiří Petrbok
In his works, Petrbok repeatedly deforms the human body in a way which – although it seems to be quite absurd – arouses restlessness, or directly displeasure related to the perception of one's own vulnerability. Using the painting shortcut, he refers to pathological conditions of the mind, phobias, physical deformations and handicaps. To emphasize scenes composed to create situations led ad absurdum, he uses neon paints and strong contrasts. In pictures, he does not hesitate to refer to world artists dealing in a similar way with corporeality, for instance, the Chapman brothers. However, unlike them, he holds onto the medium of painting.
