André Butzer

The painting expression of André Butzer is grounded on the visuality of comic characters of the early 20th century. He is interested in the comic as a medium because of its duality on the borderline between a child's naivety and the artificially created environment of distorted morals. His distinctive expression can be recognized by the use of an extensive colour spectrum creating in his paintings the impression of organised chaos and by the recurrence of objects similar to masks with empty eye sockets. Butzer was born in Stuttgart, currently he lives in Rangsdorf near Berlin.
