Daniel Balabán
The first laureate of the Michal Ranný Award often works with contradictions and contrasts, as also manifested by his works represented in the AG collection. He draws subjects from everyday experience, exploring their inherent essence through a variable technique. The painter and brother of the late writer, Jan Balabán, he also regularly publishes his aphorisms and opinions on artistic production on Facebook, and by means of other texts he explains the circumstances leading to the creation of some of his works. Daniel Balabán graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, and at present he lives and works in Ostrava.
